The Horror Story Genre 

This teaching resource is designed to help Year 9 and Year 10 pupils develop their reading analysis skills in preparation for the English GCSE exam. The resource uses the short stories The Hitchhiker and The Man with the Yellow Face by Anthony Horowitz to explore reading analysis skills and the conventions of the horror genre. The resource is suitable for all abilities but is especially effective with lower ability GCSE students. Depending on the number of English lessons per week, this unit should easily provide 2 to 3 weeks’ worth of teaching.
