Synonyms - KS3

This lesson is aimed at middle ability KS3 pupils who need to become more confident in the use of synonyms of everyday words.

After an introduction to the concept of synonyms, pupils will undertake a range of differentiated tasks which will help them to choose appropriate synonyms and apply them in their own writing. 

The lesson concludes with a brief review which tests pupils’ understanding of the use of suitable synonyms.

This resource includes a list of synonyms of everyday words but you may also wish to provide pupils with a thesaurus for the writing task.   

Answers are provided for all tasks.
