Stories from other Cultures - teaching resource
Stories from Different Cultures is a 53 slide PowerPoint based teaching unit with of 12 worksheets. The resource is ideal for teaching stories from other cultures at upper KS2 or lower KS3. All slides are editable and can be adapted and tweaked to suit your teaching needs. Narrative Unit - Stories from Different Cultures contains a range of lessons and activities such as:
-The example story of The Willow Pattern
-Story from China, The Tales of the 1001 Arabian Nights and Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters from Africa. Teachers can select from these stories or use all three over a number of weeks.
-Include a serialised class novel such as The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman, the Jungle Book stories by Rudyard Kipling or Melesse, a story from Africa by Anne Adeney (Pelican Big Books)
-Deduce differences in patterns of relationships, customs and attitudes with particular reference to the way characters act and interact.
-Look at an author's use of language, for example literal and figurative language for descriptions; to create a comic or dramatic effect.
-Identify point of view from which a story is told. Select a character and role-play to explore the story from their perspective.
-Write in role, such as a letter from one character to another.
-Plan and retell a story from a contrasting point of view.
