Gripping Openings (teaching unit with PowerPoint and worksheets)

This is a short  three lesson unit of work designed to introduce pupils to key reading analysis techniques.

For pupils in Year 9/10 (and less able older students) these tasks will introduce them to the gripping opening pages of 3 page-turner novels and also begin to teach them the fiction analysis skills necessary for GCSE.

Students will learn the P.E.E.D. technique and a range of language techniques. The extracts can be used as a springboard for encouraging pupils to read these novels for pleasure.

The unit uses three novels: Conspiracy 365 by Gabrielle Lorde, i-ssassins by Christopher Edge and Gone by Michael Grant.
