This resource is designed to help Year 10 and Year 11 students develop their narrative writing skills in preparation for the GCSE English exam. The resource focuses on how to create an effective story opening which will hook the reader and impress an examiner immediately. Content includes:

• A description of the different types of story openings with examples
• Activities to support the teaching of this objective

The resource is designed with GCSE writing prep in mind, however it can be easily adapted for use with KS3 students to help develop good writing habits early.
