GCSE Poetry and Place

This is a four-lesson mini unit of work – with an extension task - designed to introduce pupils to analysing poetry at GCSE.

The unit uses the poems Island Man by Grace Nichols and Blessing by Imtiaz Dharker to develop key GCSE analysis skills. There is a focus on imagery, language and poetic devices and students learn the P.E.E.D. technique to help them write an extended response to poetry. The resource is fully editable so can be easily tweaked, edited and adapted for different ages and abilities.
